I recently finished Binti by Nnedi Okorafor. Obviously, I’m pretty late to this party. Binti won both the 2016 Hugo and 2015 Nebula for Best Novella.
“Binti” is a novella about a young mathematical prodigy who travels to an interstellar university, sort of. I’m not going to delve to deeply into the story or its analysis. Both things have been done much better by people both smarter and with better perspective than I.
I will say that it’s gorgeously written, and Okorafor plays with ideas of how conflicts can be resolved, and what causes conflict, and addresses both from an angle that I had not experienced before. I highly recommend it for precisely this reason.
